I'm an actor (among other things...)
I'm Ali Silva, and I'm an actor. Based in New York City. Grew up in Kentucky. Classically trained in the UK at Drama Studio London. I have a love for theatre — Shakespeare, in particular, and the classics — and I also have a knack for voiceover and voice acting. I have experience in dramaturgy, a facility with classical texts and quite a bunch of dialects, which has led me to directing and coaching others. My focus for quite some time has been a delightfully dark and sometimes funny podcast based on a live performance series that I co-created in 2011 called Fireside Mystery Theatre. . .
Fireside Mystery Theatre
I'm about to tell you that I am a multi-hyphenate (ugh, how annoying)! I am co-creator/producer/host/lead actor/audio supervisor/post-production engineer for a funny little thing called Fireside Mystery Theatre.
And it is funny, actually. This thing that started out as a quite simple means to fill a deep need to perform, create, play with words and language, and to stretch my instrument as an actor has grown into something so much more. . .
From its humble beginnings in the form of solo readings of classic spooky stories told by the fireside (to a small but rapt audience on cold winter evenings), a fortuitous shift morphed our creation into regular live performances of original audio drama in an anthology style that pays homage to the golden age of radio theatre. We actually started out as a cover band of sorts, performing OTR scripts from the fabulous Suspense series on CBS radio that was popular in the 40s and 50s.
This is what I've been preoccupied with for some years — but it has inspired me to grow as an actor, to expand my repertoire, stretch my muscles, and hone my tools. Nowhere else have I had the opportunity to play in one show, a mischievous little boy, a doddering octogenarian, the gal-next-door, and a femme fatale within a 2-hour span.
I must say, it's been quite fun. There's a lot to listen to. And lots more to come. . .

I am professional and proficient in many other things too (a place we actors often find ourselves in for survival). I'm a freelance copy editor and proofreader. I work for various print and digital publications.
I am also an audio editor and post-production fiend. Thanks in part to my experience growing Fireside Mystery Theatre — in its live show form as well as its podcast — I have experience managing sound design, editing, and podcast audio production.
